The Senate voted 55-43 to approve Seema Verma to run the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Monday, filling a critical top health care role in the Trump administration.

Verma was formerly the owner of SVC Inc., a health care consulting firm specializing in Medicaid reform at the state level. She worked with Vice President Mike Pence when he was Governor of Indiana, as well as several other states.

Provider and industry groups alike praised Verma’s confirmation. AHCA/NCAL President and CEO Mark Parkinson issued a statement upon her confirmation saying “Her experience and health care policy knowledge will serve the country well as we continue on the journey to provide quality care for millions of patients and residents.”

Last week, Parkinson and NCAL Executive Director Scott Tittle penned an op-ed supporting Verma's nomination.

Verma will report to Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, who was confirmed earlier this year.
