OIG Releases FY 2016 Medicaid Fraud Control Unit Statistical Data

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of Inspector General (OIG) has released FY 2016 statistics highlighting Medicaid Fraud Control Units (MFCUs) investigations, recoveries and expenditures by state. Specifically, MFCUs were responsible for 1,721 indictments; 1,564 convictions, and $1.8 billion in criminal and civil recoveries. The majority of those actions focused on Medicaid fraud, and approximately 3,000 investigations dealt with abuse or neglect.
