Federal Subsidies for Health Insurance Purchased in the Private Market

Last week, the Obama administration announced that it would allow some people to receive federal subsidies for health insurance purchased in the private market outside of the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA’s) health insurance exchanges due to technical issues in establishing automated eligibility and enrollment functionality. This announcement is the latest in a series of ACA related policy changes, extensions and clarifications by the Administration. More details can be found in this article from the New York Times, and in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ bulletin to marketplaces. If you have any questions relating to the ACA, please submit them to insurancecoverage@ahca.org, and be sure to check out AHCA/NCAL’s ACA website.
